May 9--If you are elderly, have a lung illness or heart disease, be alert this morning for wildfire smoke thick enough to choke out sunlight.
Weather forecasters are worried a plume that inflicted misery on the Tampa Bay area Tuesday might drift across Central Florida by daybreak today.
Health experts say some people may face breathing problems from the dense smoke of nearly 45,000 acres of wildfire spreading across drought-parched Florida. Flames from massive wildfires in Georgia crossed into Florida, worsening the smoke and forcing the evacuation of about 300 homes northwest of Jacksonville.
