May 9--Elementary students in West Ashley and North Charleston could be standing at the bus stop while high-schoolers are still sleeping.
The Charleston County School District is considering switching in August the start times for 30 elementary, middle and high schools in Districts 4 and 10.
The principals of North Charleston, Stall High and West Ashley high schools asked the district to push back their schools' start times because it would help their students. Medical research shows high school students typically aren't able to fall asleep before 11 p.m. and their brains remain in sleep mode until about 8 a.m.
