May 10--The city and county should not hesitate to chip in $2,000 each month to help rent space for Skrappy's, a club and private social service agency for teenagers.
The city already provides $3.7 million a year in financial assistance to a wide variety of private nonprofit social-service groups. The list includes the Salvation Army, the Primavera Foundation, soccer leagues, groups that help abused women, groups that assist AIDS victims, agencies that provide rehabilitation services to drug addicts, and many others.
The individual grants the city provides to most private social services groups far exceeds the amount it is considering granting ...
