May 10--Chinese language instruction will be offered at the University of Wisconsin-Superior next year, as part of one of two new academic departments.
"Chinese language is the fastest-growing language of popularity at the high school and collegiate level in the U.S. today," said David Tobaru Obermiller, assistant professor in the department of social inquiry, who specializes in East Asia studies.
There aren't enough qualified teachers to go around, so UWS hopes to train more as interest increases and advanced levels are added, he said.
