May 10--TOKYO -- Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said Thursday its group net profit increased 7.2 percent to 335.81 billion yen in fiscal 2006, with solid sales of its medicines in Japan, Europe and the United States helping it set a new high in sales for the 16th straight year.
In a group earnings report for the year ended March 31, the drug manufacturer said its pretax profit jumped 20.5 percent to 585.02 billion yen on a 7.7 percent sales rise to 1.31 trillion yen.
The company attributed the sales increase to brisk shipments of drugs for treatment of diabetes, hypertension and ulcers.
The yen's depreciation also contributed to the results.
