Introduction
I have had the pleasure now of teaching several classes on hands-on embedded passives (EP) design. This is a lot of fun, as there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a complex new technology like EP come to life on a circuit board before your very eyes. But it is embarrassing to have to admit that there is no help for you in justifying this new technology. It seems that the industry has spent all its money developing this leading-edge technology but then forgot to put in place a way to justify using the technology. The basic cost argument goes like this:
