Mental Health Treatment for Youth Reduces Illinois Juvenile Crime.

CHICAGO, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The evaluation of a 16-month initiative that treated more than 700 youth with mental illness, and who had been in contact with law enforcement and the juvenile justice systems, was released today. The results of the evaluation reveal that early diagnosis and treatment of mental illness among those youth who have been in contact with the justice system results in a significant decrease in future contact with law enforcement. These and other findings were unveiled in a press conference on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the State House Press Room at the State Capitol in Springfield.
