Meeting on 14 May, EU defence ministers are expected to reach political agreement on the legal basis for a future ESDP police mission to Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan). In February, the EU Council approved the concept for such a mission, which will work towards a fully-fledged Afghan police force. Concretely, they are due to announce the mid-June launch of a civil police mission to Afghanistan to support the reform, training and restructuring of the police at central, regional and provincial levels.
