May 12--Guitar legend Les Paul played a benefit concert Thursday night in his hometown of Waukesha, Wis., that raised $100,000 for an exhibit on his life at the Waukesha County Historical Society. The 91-year-old Paul, who played a 90-minute set with his jazz trio, had not played back home for decades.
"I'm nervous tonight," he said.
Paul is renowned for inventing, in the '40s, the solid-body electric guitar, which opened the door to rock-and-roll. ("Thank God the younger generation latched onto it," he said.)
