Drew Marquez thought he had made a loud out.
What the Rocky Mountain second baseman next witnessed was Columbine right fielder Morgan Blatnik diving for the line drive. Then he saw the baseball heading for the fence at All City Field.
Marquez ended up on third with a game-tying triple in the top of the seventh inning, then scored on a wild pitch to give Rocky Mountain a wildly entertaining 9-8 win Friday against the defending champion Rebels in the Class 5A Championship Series.
"It looked like it was right at him, then it tailed at the last second," Marquez said. "Luckily, it got past him."
