JERUSALEM, Israel, May 11, 2007 (IPS/GIN) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert lost ground this week when former Prime Minister Ehud Barak suggested that the embattled leader should step down.
Calls for Olmert to resign have intensified in the wake of a scathing report on his handling of the war in Lebanon last summer.
Barak, who is running for the leadership of the center-left Labor Party, said he will push for early elections if he wins the primary on May 29, if Olmert has not quit by then.
