May 14--KENYON -- In reviving its police department, the city of Kenyon is changing course from a decision first made nine years ago.
Kenyon disbanded its police department in 1998 when it contracted with the Goodhue County Sheriff's Department. The city's action at the time was typical of a trend in law enforcement as dozens of cities like Kenyon opted to contract out their police protection to a sheriff's department.
Data from the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training indicate 75 law enforcement agencies, many of which operated in small cities in outside the Twin Cities, no longer exist.Many other small ...
