A&E tells of its plans to make history of its own.

The History Channel, A&E Networks' spinoff service set to launch Jan. 1, will take advantage of its parental heritage to establish itself as an independent programming service.

This trend, demonstrated by such networks as ESPN2, America's Talking and the forthcoming Movies From Fox: fXM, is becoming increasingly critical to the successful launch of a new service.
