New models will see application in automotive yaw- and roll-sensing
By 2012, all vehicles sold in the U.S. will have electronic stability control, an automotive feature that enables them to use their anti-lock brakes to halt yaw. As a result, industry experts say, automakers will need tens of millions of angular rate sensors to help them create those stability control systems. 'Everybody's scrambling to meet the stability control (NHTSA) mandate,' says Mike Layton, technical specialist for Systron Donner Automotive, a sensor manufacturer.
