The Ironman Triathlon, Badgers football and a horse fair trumped waterparks, fudge and day spas in 2006, launching Dane County into the No. 2 tourism destination in Wisconsin, state officials say.
Travel spending figures released today by the state Department of Tourism show that the home of the state Capitol is now the number two county in the state for travelers to spend money. Dane County moves up one spot to replace Sauk County -- home to many of the attractions in the Wisconsin Dells area -- which fell to third.
