May 15--Mount Olive and Metro East Lutheran of Edwardsville posted convincing Class A regional softball victories Monday in the Knights Regional.
The Wildcats pounded Staunton 14-0, while the Knights eliminated Roxana 9-1. Mount Olive now plays Marquette Catholic at 4 p.m. Wednesday. MELHS tangles with Lebanon at 4 today.
Sydney Short did it all for the 13-8 Wildcats in their lopsided win. She went 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs. Winning pitcher Dawn Kernich went 3-for-4, had two RBIs, swiped four bases and scored three runs.
Kernich gave up two hits in shutting out the Bulldogs. The Wildcats scored 14 times on 17 hits over four innings.
