NEW YORK -- The vitamin category continues to thrive at chain drug stores, as consumers seek to take ever greater control over their well being.
"It's an exciting category," says Thrifty PayLess Inc. divisional merchandise manager of health care Jerry Howell. "It's one that over the years has had its ups and downs, but right now it's on an upswing.
"People are more concerned about taking care of themselves, as evidenced by the fitness craze, anti-smoking sentiments and dietary concerns. All those things are helping drive vitamin sales."
