Purpose:
This position statement articulates the American Nurses Association's position with regard to patient (1) safety and the registered nurse's responsibility (2) in the evaluation of his/ her degree of fatigue when deciding to accept or reject any assignment extending beyond their regularly scheduled work day or week, including a mandatory or voluntary overtime assignment.
