San Diego business leaders are giddy about the prospect of hosting the GOP jubilee.
The site-selection committee for the 1996 Republican National Convention ended a fierce, six-month competition to pick a host for the soiree Dec. 13 by selecting America's Finest City.
As a result, San Diego is almost certain to bathe in the national limelight for months before and after the week-long event that runs Aug. 12-15, 1996. The GOP National Committee will vote on the recommendation of its scouts in January.
