May 17--Cellist Paul Dwyer, a senior at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, is one of two music students in the nation to receive a Jacob K. Javits Fellowship. The award provides more than $40,000 a year for up to four years, which will cover the cellist's tuition, fees and a stipend while he works on a doctor of musical arts degree with teacher Richard Aaron at the University of Michigan.
This year, Dwyer was one of the top winners of Tuesday Musical's Scholarship Competition. He received the Arden J. Yockey Scholarship for Strings, a $1,400 prize.
