May 17--STAMFORD -- The city would be required to conduct a revaluation every two years under a new legislative proposal intended to prevent huge increases in property assessments.
The sponsors -- North Stamford city representatives Scott Mirkin, R-13, and Randall Skigen, D-19 -- want to avoid situations such as the one taxpayers face this year, with property assessments that have not been updated in seven years.
The 2006 revaluation resulted in property values doubling and tripling for some owners because existing values were from 1999, before one of the biggest spikes in real estate prices occurred.
