BOSTON - Attorney General Martha Coakley and Boston police officials yesterday asked legislators to pass a law expanding the protest buffer zone around abortion and reproductive health clinics, claiming the current flexible buffer zone is allowing harassment and intimidation of staff and patients.
Ms. Coakley said a pending proposal would replace the current 18-foot buffer zone, which also allows protesters to come within 6 feet of people entering clinics.
She said that is very difficult for police to enforce, and has allowed excessive harassment of people entering and leaving the clinics.
