May 18--NORMAN -- An effort to rebuild a war-ravaged West African county could depend on technology developed in Oklahoma.
A delegation of Liberian nationals met with Norman-based Bergey Windpower last week about plans to buy 30 wind electricity generators. The group hopes the turbines will help them reopen 30 schools by February in the country desperately trying to recover after 14 years of civil war.
"Our goal is to improve education in Liberia and West Africa," said Karto Marshall, a director of the Liberian Literacy Fund and part of the group that drove 18 hours last week to see up close Bergey's generators. "Illiteracy ...
