May 18--At 11 p.m., just hours after the stabbing of a University of Northern Colorado football punter, Mitch Cozad walked up to police officers to introduce himself in the parking lot of Turner Hall.
"He said, 'My mom said my car had been stolen,' " said Dan Ranous, an Evans police officer.
Cozad approached Ranous in the parking lot, said his name and said he understood they were looking for him, the officer said.
Cozad appeared in court on Tuesday with his defense attorney, Joseph A. Gavaldon, and Chief Deputy District Attorney Michele Meyer, as the attorneys questioned witnesses.
