The cost of removing boats abandoned in Mission Bay, CA, has strained the nearby San Diego Lifeguard Service's budget, leaving less money to maintain the fleet of Lifeguard vessels used for emergency response.

The San Diego Port Authority will soon change the rules associated with a free, long-term anchorage in San Diego Bay for recreational boats known as A-8. The new rules still allow long-term anchoring, but require a $2,500 deposit, refund able when the boat leaves the anchorage.
