HOUSTON _ When Hank Blalock finally admitted something was wrong _ very wrong _ with his throwing shoulder Wednesday night, the Rangers were initially concerned it might be a blood clot.
Doctors were able to rule out the blood clot pretty quickly, but that's where the good news ended. On Friday, the club confirmed Blalock was suffering from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, a condition where a rib compresses a nerve and restricts blood flow to the arm.
He will undergo surgery on Monday to remove a rib and relieve the pressure on a nerve and arteries. He will be lost for a minimum of 10 weeks.
