May 19--To mostly cheers and a few scattered boos, Barry Zito strode to the mound at McAfee Coliseum at 7:09 p.m. Friday to pitch the bottom of the first inning.

He was still out there at 7:26, looking for his second out. Zito had thrown 37 pitches, allowed four walks, and given up three runs to his former A's teammates.

At 7:27, on his 38th pitch of the game, Zito threw a double-play ball to Travis Buck and finally ended the inning.

By 8:32, Zito was out of the game entirely after failing to retire a batter in the fifth inning of the A's eventual 15-3 rout of the Giants. Zito gave up seven of those runs.
