Final Analysis Inc.'s first experimental satellite, FAISAT-1, was successfully launched into low Earth orbit by a Russian booster about 11:00 p.m. EST Monday.
A Cosmos rocket launched the satellite from Russia's Plesetsk Cosmodrome.
FAISAT-1 is the first American-built commercial satellite to fly aboard a Russian launcher. It also is the first commercial satellite to carry a U.S. military payload.
The launch was the first commercially insured launch for the Cosmos vehicle. Sedwick Space Services arranged the insurance package.
