May 20--Reading Phillies first baseman Matt Padgett can give you a lot of reasons for his recent turnaround at the plate. He can talk about his hand position. His timing mechanism. His mental approach.
Basically, though, he's just simplified his approach.
"I went completely back to the basics, as basic as I could possibly be," Padgett said after blasting a two-run homer and collecting three hits in the Phillies' 12-2 Eastern League romp over visiting Portland Saturday.
