Mayor Michael Bloomberg this week unveiled a plan to transform one of the city's most contaminated sites into one of its most vibrant and environmentally friendly mixed used communities.
The Willets Point peninsula--located on the Flushing River between Shea Stadium and Downtown Flushing in Northern Queens--will be flushed of the widespread petroleum contamination that grew from decades of spillage and neglect and turned into a 60-acre haven of homes, schools, playgrounds and offices.
