May 21--The Oklahoma City auditor's office questioned the legality of former city councilman Brent Rinehart's campaign finances seven months before the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation launched a probe that resulted in felony counts against Rinehart and his former campaign manager, documents obtained by The Oklahoman show.

The findings were made in an audit requested in 2004 by Rinehart's fellow council members after he accepted a $5,000 donation to his 2004 campaign for a seat on the board of county commissioners for Oklahoma County from developer Jerl Methvin.
