Mexico's newest zinc producer copes with high underground water make and complex metallurgy

Bismark is one of the largest new underground mining projects constructed in Mexico over the last ten years. It is the country's fifth largest underground metal mine and is providing about 1% of the world's zinc supply. It is a wet mine that employs cut-and-fill mining by trackless equipment with overall productivities of 7.6 t/manshift. Complex mineralogy dictated differential flotation. Last year was its first full year of production and output was some 50,000 t of zinc.
