May 21--KINGWOOD -- Pastor Derek Syruws remembers growing up in a small town.
"I grew up in Preston County, and there's just nothing for a kid to do," Syruws said. "I found myself driving around the Ames parking lot."
Parishioner Malisa McCrobie grew up in Masontown -- another rural Preston town, which didn't have an Ames -- but she has similar memories of hanging out, looking for something to do.
Syruws' career took him to Michigan, but when he moved back to Preston County about 18 months ago, the lack of entertainment for teenagers struck him again. He and others in the congregation at Kingwood Christian Fellowship hatched a plan, to ...
