May 22--Slick Watts was bald as the basketball. Bill Walton wore a frizzy ponytail. Their heads looked as opposite as the North and South poles.
Yet together, they became pioneers.
They are the ones more than 30 years ago who originally sparked the headband craze that has decorated the NBA today and turned a unique look into an everyday sight.
Wilt Chamberlain may have been the first to start wearing headbands in the '60s, but he was above and beyond everyone else that no one even tried to emulate him. Guys like John Brisker in the old ABA and Sidney Wicks in the '70s tried headbands occasionally, but they weren't ...
