Thin in structure, but filled with taste and offering plentiful serving options, tortillas have whetted the appetites of consumers across the globe. Their sales are, in fact, anything but flat. Once relegated to the ethnic aisles of grocery stores, this Hispanic staple has definitely gone mainstream, beyond burritos, showing up in wraps, breakfast items and even desserts.
Whether made of wheat or corn, tortilla sales remain strong. According to the Chicago-based Information Resources, Inc., sales of hard/soft tortillas/taco kits totaled $1,016.9 million for the latest 52 weeks ending March 25.
