Boston University junior David Proctor didn't specifically train to be a record-breaking miler, and that's precisely why it happened.
Proctor's watershed moment came Jan. 27 at the Terrier Invitational when he became the first BU runner to break the 4-minute barrier. Proctor unleashed a furious kick that pushed him over the finish line in 3:59.14. He broke the record of 3:59.33 set by Providence's Max Smith in 2006.
