May 24--This is no small tribute to the power and appeal of American society: The Pew Research Center found that American Muslims are more comfortably assimilated than are Muslims in most western European countries.
There are important differences between Muslims in the U.S. and western Europe, most notably the fact that Muslims are far larger minorities in Western Europe than in the U.S. And a small minority of American Muslims admitted to pollsters that they look favorably on al-Qaida and believe suicide bombings are often or sometimes justified.
But the fact that Muslims feel more satisfied, more affluent and better accepted here probably helps ...
