The buzzing of the clock radio alarm pulls Michelle Johnson out of a comfortable sleep on this crisp late autumn morning. It is already 5:30 a.m. She reaches for the snooze button, hoping for another five minutes before starting another busy day. Today she is waking to her own clock-radio, in her own bed, in her own room, in her own home, to her own life. Eighteen months ago this was not the case. Eighteen months ago, she was waking up to another day as an inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. Convicted of aggravated vehicular assault, Johnson was serving 24 months at the facility.
