May 25--The 22nd annual Charlie Christian International Jazz Festival, a musical showcase celebrating jazz legends and up-and-coming jazz greats, will convene Thursday and June 6-10 at various locations in Oklahoma City.
The festival kicks off with Jazz Explosion, featuring eight-time Grammy-winning jazz guitarist George Benson at the Civic Center Music Hall, 201 N Walker. Benson was inspired by jazz guitarist Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery. As a singer, Benson has been referred to as the guitar-playing equivalent of Nat "King" Cole.
Also appearing as the opening act will be Tulsa smooth jazz saxophonist Grady Nichols.
