May 25--If a tree is cut down in the middle of a community, the noise may be more like an uproar.
Chopped trees have been a source of contention this year between residents and public officials in at least three cases in southeast Minnesota: Viola Township in Olmsted County and the Goodhue County communities of Kenyon and Frontenac. Some started petitions in protest, wrote letters to the editor and complained at government meetings that they weren't adequately notified the trees were going to be cut down.
