May 26--When Andersen Windows announced it was eliminating 440 jobs late last year, the Bayport-based company blamed the cuts on a downturn in the U.S. housing market.
More recently, though, the U.S. Department of Labor decided that competition from imports had contributed to the decline in Andersen's business. That ruling meant that those 440 Andersen workers are eligible for benefits under the Trade Adjustment Assistance act, a federal program that provides additional retraining and financial assistance to workers who lose their jobs.
