May 26--OSHKOSH, Wis. -- Wartburg senior Patrick Johnson took home all-America honors Friday, placing fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Johnson's time of 9 minutes, 2.55 seconds earned him a spot in the Wartburg record book, as well, besting former all-American Dan Huston's time of 9:02.74. Johnson won all-America honors for the first time as an outdoor athlete, but was twice honored in indoor competition.
Jessica Bates placed eighth in the hammer throw event with a toss of 165 feet, 9 inches on her first heave of the evening. Bates will compete in the shot put event today.
