May 26--SHIPPENSBURG -- Wounded and weary, Nadia McKenna sat on the Seth Grove Stadium infield and wept.

Gov. Mifflin's sophomore hurdler hadn't had too bad a day, all things considered. Seeded just 17th in the morning's Class AAA 100 hurdles, McKenna surprised with a sixthplace qualifying time of 15.40 that eased her into today's semifinals.

But by late Friday afternoon, toward the end of a sweltering first day at the PIAA Track and Field Championships, McKenna was wiped out.

She'd endured sapping heat, fierce competition and a finalhurdle fall in her 300 preliminary that left a screaming, red track burn ...
