Alice Avasta is looking forward to a graduation ceremony at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston on June 24.
Scheduled to get under way at 1 p.m., the ceremony will be one of those bittersweet occasions - rich with bright promises for the future, but tinged with the sadness of the past.
Ms. Avasta will probably recall her days working as a machinist for a now-defunct Worcester business, and how she injured her back in 1989, and how, in a short span thereafter, a progressive muscle disorder forced her to lean increasingly on a walking cane, then crutches, and ...
