Maroon 5 are a formidable band boasting the tunes and slick presentation here to build on their highly successful debut Songs About Jane.
It's as if some pop alchemist has decided to make the perfect record, by taking a blank canvas of guitar pop and smearing it with (among others) a dash of Prince, a splash of Michael Jackson and a few swirls of The Police.
Most of it will sound great on the radio (it helps enormously that Adam Levine has a smooth, versatile voice), virtually every track could be a single and yet, and yet . . . there's a great big hole in the band where their heart and soul should be, which ultimately makes ...
