May 28--Car dealerships owners were cringing as gas prices soared to record levels this year.

The last time prices went past $3 a gallon, customers were reeling from the prices at the pump and panicked. In turn, sales of stereotypical gas guzzlers -- RV's, SUVs and trucks -- went down.

Dealers worried as prices shot up again this year, but thus far, they say they have been pleasantly surprised.

"We did (notice a drop-off in sales) last year when it was a shock to people," said John Chamberlain, owner of Champion Auto Group at the Iron Mountain Autoplex in Windsor. "But this year I haven't noticed it. ...
