Before she leaves for work today, Daisy Dong will wrap a stylish scarf around her head and slip on a pair of oversize sunglasses.

The movie-star look serves a purpose other than fashion: Her accessorizing ritual protects her from springtime invaders: eye-itching, nose-congesting pollens.

"A lot of people don't think of the hair and the clothes," said Dong, an acupuncturist with the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. "I had a patient walk into the office one day when it was really windy, and I just started sneezing. The pollens were in her hair."
