Born in 1936 in the Havanese neighborhood of Jesus MarÃa, the distinguished pianist/composer/ arranger/producer/bandleader Alberto Javier Vázquez Lauzurica (better known in the music world as Javier Vázquez) studied, back in the late 1940s and early 1950s, at the Conservatorio de Música de La Habana and at the Academia Musical de Perreyaide. By the late 1950s, Vázquez was already leading the Havanese nonet that accompanied the famous vocalist José Tejedor in the recordings of such hits as Las tinieblas, Escándalo and Vagabundo.
