Article: House passes anti-price gouging bill.(US House of Representatives)

Shrugging off a White House veto threat for the second time in as many days, the US House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would slap stiff penalties on those engaging in gasoline and other petroleum product price gouging (OD May23,p2).

Crafted to protect consumers from price inflation of petroleum products during an energy emergency, the bill passed 284-141 votes.

By just barely passing the measure by a two-thirds majority, the Democratic-controlled House showed that it has enough support to override a presidential veto.
