THE importance not only of filtering the melt during extrusion of critical pipe, but also of proving you have done so is stressed by German screen changer manufacturer Gneuss.
In a publication promoting its rotary melt filters Gneuss cites the production of gas pipe. While the normal wall thickness of 10-20 mm would seem to make it pretty robust, the environment in which it spends its life--buried in the ground with temperatures varying and movements in the surrounding soil--can build up stresses which can lead to a fracture if the pipe walls contain foreign bodies.
